What is Test Automation?
Test automation is the process of automating manual testing throughout the software development life-cycle. This eliminates the need for repetitive manual tasks in tests such as regression and functional testing.
Test automation also allows for unwanted defects in your software process to be discovered and removed as early as possible, so they do not impact later in the life-cycle. While this sounds simple enough, without prior experience, your test automation journey can be very tricky.
What tests should you be automating?

For a test to be automated it must be repeatable. Else why bother automating it?
DETERMINANT
The test must also be determinant. The desired outcome of the test must be the same each time it's run.
UNOPINIONATED
The test should also be unopinionated,. Tests that require user feedback are not suitable
